Every Big 4 New York City Sports Team Imploded within a Month of Each Other

New York Sports are a catastrophic dumpster fire right now. In the months of April or May, every single Big 4 professional sports team in the Big Apple has been turned on its head. They are all in shambles in one way or another. Having two teams in every major sport doubles their chances of having at least one good team, but the consistent top draft picks seems to only have a negative effect. Here is the current state of all the New York City basketball, hockey, football and baseball teams.

The math gods were not kind the New York Knicks at the NBA Draft Lottery. As it turns out, having a 14% to get the number one overall pick also means that there is a 86% that they won’t. Putting all their eggs in one basket (because they couldn’t put basketballs in it) for Zion ended up not working out. At the third pick, they could still get RJ Barrett and with the possibility of getting KD and Kyrie could mean there is hope. But right now, it looks like 2020 could be another tank year.

“The Process” proved trustworthy as the Sixers knocked out the Nets in a gentleman’s sweep. But hey, at least they made the playoffs.

So much talent, so much promise and so much potential all leading to so much heartbreak. The best Islanders season in recent history ending in a sweep to the Hurricanes who are on the verge of being swept themselves.

Yikes. The Rangers finished the season with a 32-36 record and missed the playoffs.

Any and all hope for this team was flushed down the toilet at the 2019 NFL Draft. With Eli’s career on its metaphorical death bed, the Giants desperately needed a new quarterback who could be the new face of the franchise. Everyone in the world would have picked Dwayne Haskins… except for David Gettleman who ended up selecting Daniel Jones out of Duke. Leading to the mental breakdown of many Giants fans.

Well, the Jets just fired their GM Mike Maccagnan and VP of Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger. It’s a good thing to get rid of upper management in a franchise that has been so terrible in recent years, but now Adam Gase may be the new GM…

Literally everyone is hurt.

Oh man, the Mets are bad. Not like Yankees bad where they will be good again as soon as some players come back, but Knicks bad. They are even considering bringing up Tim Tebow who is hitting .120 just to put asses in seats.

Remember the Last Time Some Stupid Team Chanted “We Want Boston”?

One seeds should never adopt the underdog mentality. Especially when they are about to play a 4 seed. The fans of the Milwaukee Bucks have officially put a target on their back. While it is pathetic for a 1 seed to ever chant they want another team, it is understandable given that the city of Milwaukee is not used to being on the winning side of anything.

If Bucks fans were going to chant anything, it should have been “we want Detroit” last round. Chanting “we want Boston” has not worked out too well for the chanting team in past. For example, recall what happened just last year.

That’s right. The ever so rational fans of the New York Yankees chanted that they wanted Boston right before last year’s ALDS. Then, Boston promptly laid down the gentleman’s sweep out of respect for their rival.

The Red Sox won the series with ease 4 games to 1. This included a 16-1 curb stomp in Game 3. Should have been smarter Milwaukee, because we all know history repeats itself. Celtics in 7.

FTD: AL East Preview and Predictions

We are a week and two days away from the season beginning. I have previewed the NL West, AL West, AL Central, and the NL West. The NL Central will be released tomorrow and I will release my season predictions next Thursday, Opening Day.

To begin, Mike Trout just signed the largest contract in MLB/Sports History. It’s a damn shame that it happens to be in Anaheim and honestly if he wants to be considered the greatest ever, he messed up. He has been in the league 8 years, but has only made the playoffs 3 times. He is the most boring amazing athlete of our generation. Regardless, 12 years 430 million. Not like I called it or anything, oh wait… let’s get started.

Let’s be honest, there are only two teams that could possibly win the division: Boston and New York. So naturally, that is all I will talk about. Let’s get started.

New York Yankees

Projected Lineup: Aaron Hicks CF, Aaron Judge RF, Giancarlo Stanton DH, Gary Sanchez C, Miguel Andujar 3B, Gleyber Torres 2B, Luke Voit/Greg Bird 1B, Troy Tulowitzki SS, Brett Gardner/Clint Frazier OF.

Projected Rotation: Masahiro Tanaka, JA Happ, James Paxton, CC Sabathia, Luis Severino (out till May), Domingo German, Gio Gonzalez, Jonathan Loaisiga

The Yankees may not have signed Harper or Machado but they did have the best offseason of any team out there. They traded for one of the most electric starting pitchers in James Paxton, while giving up one of their top prospects. They also signed JA Happ, Gardner, Sabathia, Gio Gonzalez, and Troy Tulo. Look, the Yankees did not need much to add to their lineup, but what they did add will win them the World Series. This year, they are a more complete team than last. Expectations for them are sky high. Aaron Judge said they’ll “crush” the homerun record they set last season but there is one thing that scares me… injuries. The Yankees have the best team in baseball, I do not think anyone will argue that. But, with the year starting next week they are already missing CC and Severino. They’ll be back but what the Yankees can’t do is survive with injuries. We saw how dangerous the Yankees were last season, then Judge got hurt. Injuries happen, just hopefully not long-term. The Yankees have the best lineup, best bullpen, and a top 5 rotation when healthy. They’ll finish 110-52.

Boston Red Sox

Projected Lineup: Andrew Benintendi OF, Mookie Betts OF, JD Martinez DH, Xander Bogaerts SS, Mitch Moreland 1B, Rafael Devers 3B, Eduardo Nunez 2B, Christian Vazquez C, Jackie Bradley Jr OF.

Projected Rotation: Chris Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello, Nathan Eovaldi, Eduardo Rodriguez

The defending World Series Champions have a ton still left to prove. The last time the Red Sox won a World Series, they finished dead last in the AL East the following season. In fact, they’ve never made it past the first round in the playoffs after a World Series. They have the team to win it again… just kidding. As every team got better this offseason, Boston lost their closer and most of their bullpen. They only resigned Eovaldi. Their bullpen will cause them trouble all year long and with no Kelly or Kimbrel, they will not go too far. They only way the Red Sox reach the playoffs is if they sign a ton of relievers to enhance their bullpen. If they don’t, they will not survive the injury prone Chris Sale and David Price. I think they suck this season (for current standards) and finish a mere 90-72.

Derek Jeter: “Impossible to Win Every Single Game”… Especially When He Trades Away All His Talent

Derek Jeter’s time as the Owner of the Miami Marlins can be summed up in one word: Debacle. Whether it’s the trading of his best players or utter failure to win games, it’s no secret that he is losing the fans. In fact, Miami averaged less than 10,000 fans per game last year. To put that in perspective, the Mets got 28,000.

When Jeter was asked about the state of the team he said:

“This is professional sports, and I feel bad for even saying this, but it’s impossible to win every single game. But one thing you always remember is the experience you have while you’re at the park, and we want it to be a positive experience and we want people to enjoy themselves,” Jeter said, according to the New York Post. “And look, a lot of times people come, they don’t know who won or lost, sometimes they don’t even know who was playing, but they do know if they had a good experience, and that’s what we’re focused on.”

Let’s unpack how nothing of a statement this was. First, Jeter starts out by saying that he cannot win all 162 games and how he feels bad for saying that. What? Jeter feels bad about saying something that is true 100% of the time? A fact as some call it.

Later, he says that some people don’t even know who was playing. Well, duh. The fans know who the stars are, and Jeter keeps trading them away. Giancarlo Stanton to his beloved Yankees and JT Realmuto to division rival Phillies. Hard to know who the players are when either no one does anything or the ones worth getting to know will be shipped off soon.

Lastly, Jeter says that he is focused on the experience for fans. I guess when you can’t show the fans some quality baseball, you have to throw in some gimmicks to make it bearable. I am not much of a TV baseball watcher, but going to a ballpark is one of my favorite things of all time to do. Dollar Dog and Beer Night can make me cancel just about any plan I had previously. But, if I never hear one crack of the bat, then I will feel just a little bit cheated of the experience.

I don’t even have baseball team that I root for, but I know Jeter is doing something wrong. Only a matter of time before there is a full mutiny on him.

Odds to Land Manny Machado

We are less than two weeks away from Spring Training and the two biggest names in free agency have yet to sign. Manny Machado and Bryce Harper still have not signed with a team. Not due to a lack of effort either. The White Sox have offered 7 years and $175 million, but it looks like that isn’t good enough. The most recent update is that Machado has met with the Padres for the second time…

Juice wrote the other day about possible collusion going on between owners. They do not want to pay exorbitant amounts of money to players who have no guarantee of paying off. Just look at how bad the Yankees got burned on Jacoby Ellsbury. Only problem is that Machado is waiting for Harper to sign and Harper is waiting for Machado to sign. They want the other to set the precedent for the market value of superstars. Machado about nothing if you ask me.

But after all, Machado has to sign somewhere if he wants to play this season. Here are the most recent odds on where he lands.

Once more updated odds are released, I am sure that it will include the Padres as favorites. We thought that Machado was going to sign with the Yankees. Dan Clark, who is normally a trusted source, even tweeted that he did right before he deleted his Twitter for a little while. Now, it looks like the Yankees are only the third most likely team. I am going to say it now, Manny Machado will cave first and take the White Sox offer.
