Latest on Kerry Blackshear, Down to 2

This could be the day that Kerry Blackshear commits to the Cats. As multiple people are speculating that he has committed, I won’t say anything until it’s official. I have heard that if he has committed, expect it by noon today. But I have also heard that Texas A&M and Virginia Tech may get a visit next week. I really do not think that they’ll get a visit, especially with Kentucky being the favorite all along, but his family could pressure him into it.

Mike Young is adamant that Virginia Tech is still in the hunt. I am here to tell you that they are not. As it was reported yesterday, Kerry is down to two schools: Kentucky and Tennessee. Tennessee is Tennessee. Kerry apparently loved his visit and Rick Barnes has built such a great program and a true contender (in the SEC) in Knoxville. But there is still one thing that stands out to me…Kentucky is the only school that fits what he wants. At Tennessee he would be “the guy” because they lost essentially everyone. He’d be a great fit with national exposure, but at the same time they stand no chance at winning anything. At Kentucky he‘d probably start but he’d have to fight it out for minutes. He has the best opportunity to improve at Kentucky and a better chance at winning a title.

From day one, I’ve said Kerry was a Cat. Want proof? Click here. I heard that he was so enamored by Kentucky when Cal and company visited a while back that he wanted to commit immediately after he withdrew his name, but his parents wanted him to wait so he tour other schools and make a decision then. He is a mature player, so he took their advice and waited. Everyone is probably getting fed up with this process, but I can assure you he is too. It’s a draining process and he wants it done as much as we do. Today is a big though. Kerry could commit a year after Reid did and on a huge day due to the draft. The Cats could get their center today and I think it will happen.

But for now we play the waiting game. I saw yesterday that during his visit, literally every UK account started following him. Well, now John Calipari does as well. These could be hints and so could Swaggy Cal boarding his jet yesterday right after the visit. With everything I have heard, Kerry will commit today. Kentucky will be announcing the news and they are preparing a video for him to post. Kerry will be a Cat in due time. Just hang in there BBN.

Did We Just Get A Hint?

For the past weeks we have all been focused on Kerry Blackshear and his pending decision. I’ve said since day one that it would be Kentucky but recently lost some confidence due to him “loving” Tennessee and his visit there. Well, he’s currently on Kentucky’s campus and we might have just gotten us a hint.

Kerry has recently been followed by Kentucky accounts as seen above (s/o to our guy Jon Hammons for the grab…follow him @SECSportsGuy11 on twitter and @JonHammons on Facebook). Kerry would be a huge get for Calipari and his staff so let’s hope they can close the deal tonight.

Blackshear has a ton of talent, yes, but he also would bring Calipari and Kentucky to most experienced frontcourt they have ever had. With junior Nick Richard, sophomore EJ Montgomery, graduate transfer Nate Sestina, and graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr, Kentucky bigs would be lethal. Mix them with probably one of the best backcourts in the nation with Ashton Hagans, Quickley, and Maxey this team would be arguably the consensus #1 preseason team.

These next two days are essential though and it started last evening. As I told y’all the other night, the is “major interest” in both sides (Kerry and Cal) and a commitment is very possible as early as today (June 19th). Realistically, I say we get a commitment late today or early Thursday but nevertheless I think Kerry joins the team. He will help build EJ and Nick as well as being a leader on this team. He brings a special skill set that Cal and Kenny can further pull out and this will leap Kentucky into the #1 preseason team, giving them a ton of momentum to get 9. Let’s go get Kerry.

PS… This same thing happened with Jaden McDaniels, so don’t let this get your hopes too high. But, Kentucky Athletics typically does not follow athletes until they have committed.

Kerry Blackshear Waiting Game, Mike Young Comments

The waiting game can be awful but as Jake Weingarten reported last night, Kerry Blackshear has finally landed on campus and his visit began with a talk from Calipari. He also has reported that Kerry Blackshear may be signed within 48 hours which is at least the hope of John Calipari and the Kentucky staff. Again, Blackshear is coming off a big season averaging 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season at Virginia Tech which also included a Sweet 16 experience. Blackshear would bring something more important than his game to Kentucky…his experience.

His old school, Virginia Tech, apparently feels pretty decent as well, as Mike Young stated that they are “very much” in the picture of landing Blackshear…but let me tell you: they’re not. It’s Kentucky or Tennessee. Virginia Tech is set on him picking them due to their graduate school, but Kentucky offers the same program and allows him the opportunity to win a championship and Blackshear as stated how much he wants to win.

Kerry Blackshear Final Update (Hopefully)

Today is the day. Today is when Kerry Blackshear steps foot on Kentucky’s campus and hopefully Cal does not let him leave. The visit will start this evening and Kentucky is hoping he commits while he is visiting. There is a ton to show Kerry, including how successful Kentucky has been with not only getting players to the NBA but also being able to develop into stars. Kerry wants to win and Kentucky offers him the best chance do so, especially when he is considering Tennessee and Texas A&M. But if we do not see Kerry commit by Saturday, I think Kentucky has lost him.

The one school I thought had a legitimate chance to land him was Florida. Due to being close to home and having a great coach in Mike White, I thought Florida was a great fit and would allow Kerry to be “the guy” on a team that will finish top 20, would be top 15 with Kerry. But news yesterday claimed that he was down to three: Tennessee, Kentucky, and A&M, which again shocked me.

Tennessee is the school that could slide in and steal Kerry. Tennessee lost essentially everyone vital to their team including Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield, and Jordan Bone. They’re depleted. This would allow Kerry to be “the guy” as well as giving him the exposure he so desperately needs and he apparently loved his visit there. But he wants to win and Tennessee doesn’t offer a realistic chance to do so. As far as Texas A&M, they could steal a visit on Friday but I doubt it. Kerry would love the system and the coaches due to the familiarity with Buzz and Co but again, they offer no realistic chance to win. That is why this visit needs to be a huge success for John Calipari and he needs to not let him leave without signing.

I think good news is coming for the Cats. These next two days are essential though and it starts this evening. As I told y’all last night, the is “major interest” in both sides (Kerry and Cal) and a commitment is very possible as early as tonight (June 18th). Realistically, I say we get a commitment mid tomorrow or early Thursday but nevertheless I think Kerry joins the team. He will help build EJ and Nick as well as being a leader on this team. He brings a special skill set that Cal and Kenny can further pull out and this will leap Kentucky into the #1 preseason team, giving them a ton of momentum to get 9. Let’s go get Kerry.

The Best Moment of the Calipari Era

Over the past four days I have been ranking the best moments of the Calipari Era. This goes without saying, but the obvious #1 moment is hiring Cal to begin with, but that was a given. As I bring this to an end, a little recap. I started with #5 and Aaron Harrison and the 2014 Final Four run, Saturday I had our #4 moment with Boogie Cousins in the SEC final, #3 was the best team ever assembled that never won but finished 38-1, #2 is Brandon Knight sinking Ohio State, and the obvious #1…winning the 2012 NCAA Title.

In my rankings I have talked about both the 2010 and the 2011 team and how one grew into a Final Four team and the other (kind of) collapsed at the end. This, to me, was unexpected and it was really my first year of watching college basketball. I watched every single game, including the heartbreaker at Indiana, Anthony Davis winning the game against UNC, and of course, beating Louisville (the first time). But this team was certainly something. With Jones, Miller, and Lamb all returning and adding MKG, Teague, Wiltjer, and arguably the greatest college basketball player of all time…Anthony Davis, this team was stacked and was just so much fun to watch. With their first loss coming in December to Indiana, the team went on a run but it ended in the SEC Final to the pesky Commodores. Looking back on the moment, it was the perfect plan and gave the team motivation before the run but in the moment it was crushing. I just remember my mom saying “it’s just like `96” and it truly was.

The talent on the court was special as everyone knows, but their chemistry off the court made them winners. I’ll never forget Michael Kidd-Gilchrist going into Cal’s office telling him to start Darius Miller instead of him. Here is Cal describing the moment…”He told me that Darius was playing bad and he needs to get going and needs to get going in the NCAA tournament,” Calipari said. “I told the team that Michael wanted Darius to start because he needs to play better. Come on. That’s one of the youngest freshmen in the country doing that.” Besides Keith Bogans, MKG is my favorite UK player because of how he handled himself. But this run was something.

They beat WKU easily, then handled Iowa State who everyone picked to win. Then the rematch against Indiana and it was a slugfest. The game finished 102-90 but the score did not show the true factor. Kentucky ran that game and basically said catch us if you can and they couldn’t. After destroying Baylor, Kentucky marched to the Final Four to play the Cards in their orange jerseys, and they won the game pretty much the same way they did earlier in the year which set up Kansas in the title game. Kentucky owned that game, they never really gave Kansas a shot but the one moment Kansas had…MKG came out of nowhere and blocked the shot and took the momentum away. Kentucky cut down the nets in Cal’s third year. Relive it here.

Calipari has been special. It’s easy to forget that with his recent “failures” but Kentucky is back to greatness because of him. These are my favorite moments in the Calipari Era. Feel free to tweet me your top 5 @soft7juice and like us on Facebook @Soft7Sports for more Kentucky content.

Blackshear May Sign As Early As June 18th

Everyone knows Kerry Blackshear is the top graduate transfer in this year’s class, but there hasn’t been much word out of his camp involving where he stands. Well, sources are telling me that Blackshear is visiting “only to sign.” Blackshear was visited by Calipari and his staff before he withdrew from the NBA and Blackshear has since talked to Florida, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Tennessee is the only one that went positive and Blackshear legitimately is still considering them, or at least he was. Along with my guy, Jake Weingarten is also reporting that there is “major interest” between Kentucky and Kerry and that Texas A&M is begging for a visit but they won’t get one.

The main thing to keep an eye on is Tennessee. With this news coming out, expect another push from them as they need him. Florida is out of the running simply due to their inability to compete and honestly (as I said much earlier), when Kerry withdrew from the NBA draft he wanted to commit to Kentucky but his family talked him into visiting a few more schools and get his feet ready. Kerry is worn out and ready to decide.

As I’ve said since day 1, Kerry Blackshear will be a member of the squad in 2019-2020. Kerry wants to improve his game as well as compete for a national championship and what better place to do that than Kentucky? The center averaged 14.9 points per game along with 7.5 rebounds while at Virginia Tech and he can help EJ and Nick elevate their game. This team has the ability to run the table with the experience and the young, raw talent. Blackshear may be a senior, but he has room to improve that I believe only Kenny and Cal can bring out. With their success with NBA big men, the decision has to be easy.

Calipari adding Blackshear would be lethal. Kentucky would have to jump to the #1 preseason team with all this talent and the now needed experience…oh wait they also return 4 key players from last season. Buckle in, Cats fans, tomorrow could be wild.

The Disrespect Continues

Kentucky Football is going through a huge identity change thanks to Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow. We’re not used to expecting a 7-8 win season but they have done that to and for us. We’ve seen idiots like Braden Gall who thinks Terry is the worst in the SEC which is just stupid to even say. We have so called experts saying Kentucky would have to stretch it out to even win 6 games and then we have a new idiot today, Phil Steele. Steele released his bowl game predictions and he did not even include Kentucky in it. What an idiot.

First, Terry Wilson has what it takes to be an elite quarterback. He is tall, athletic, and can run the RPO offense which the NFL seems to be leaning towards. He has the arm to make the downfield threat but you really never know where his ball will go. He has experienced the lowest of lows, including his season opener against Central Michigan where he went 11-18 with only 78 yards and 2 interceptions but he also has had his highlights when he beat Florida at the Swamp by throwing two touchdowns and running for one more. Terry has shown he has what it takes, especially against Kentucky’s rival opponents. To say he is the worst quarterback in the SEC after he led Kentucky into the Swamp to defeat Franks and the Gators to end a long streak. To have Franks ranked above Terry is just as disrespectful as having Terry last.

Second, Kentucky has an easier schedule than last season, ya know when they went 10-3 including a huge Citrus Bowl win. Since then, Kentucky has recruited their asses off, including potentially stealing an Alabama commit in De’Rickey Knight just a week after visiting Kentucky…hmmm. Phil Steele is an idiot. Here were his predictions…

What an idiot. Kentucky will be better than Tennessee, Florida, Missouri, South Carolina oh and not to mention they went 3-1 against those teams last season. Kentucky is on the rise and the national hate will surely be something to keep an eye on. Just give us every single piece of bulletin board material there is, then we can shove it right back when we finish near the top again. They hate success stories, let’s keep it going.
