Big Blackshear Update

As we continue the watch for the Kerry Blackshear commitment for the 2019 season, news has come out from Tennessee reporter Gene Henley that he does not care about “being the man,” he wants to be on a team that has the potential to make a deep run in March and gives him the ability to improve his game and gain exposure. Another tidbit that has come out is apparently Blackshear is “worn out” by the whole process and all indications prove to him finishing up visits this weekend in Knoxville followed by one in Lexington. Rumors suggest that Texas A&M may also get a visit but Corey Evans of Rivals rules out a possible visit to College Station but again says that Calipari will get him in Lexington.

Blackshear has visited Florida and Arkansas but it is widely being said that Arkansas was a family forced visit, which I said last week. With Blackshear saying he wants a team with a potential to make a deep run, I think it still is between only two schools (like I’ve said since day one): Kentucky and Florida. Florida is depending on Kerry due to their lack of a legitimate big man and he could drastically improve them, probably making them a top 20 team next season. I’ve said time and time again that Mike White would be a perfect coach for Kerry because he could showcase his skills and not be hidden by the guard play in Florida, like he was at Virginia Tech.

The weakness for Kentucky is actually their guards. Kerry wants to showcase his skills but he doesn’t want to be the only piece. He has made it clear that he wishes to make a deep run and does not care about “being the guy,” but I do believe he does not want to be completely overshadowed. With EJ, Nick, and Nate, Kentucky already has a talented frontcourt but with Blackshear the competition would be insane and I still believe it is the best fit for Kerry. A Va Tech beat reporter claims it is between Florida and Va Tech which is just dumb to me. Virginia Tech stands no chance in March and would be a waste of time for Kerry. With Calipari having the only in home visit, it’s definitely between Kentucky and Florida and I like Kentucky’s chances, especially gaining the final visit.

This is all finally coming to a close at the end of the week. Kerry is tired and just done with the process and who could blame him. It has to be awful and I would be absolutely exhausted. My final prediction is Kentucky. The reporting claiming he wants a deep run and does not care about being the main guy just screams Kentucky to me. He could easily be the PJ of this years team and has his best chance at winning at title in Blue. Regardless, we’ll know by next week where Kerry intends to play.
