Talk about one of the least deserving teams to be in the lottery. No offense to Suns’ fans in the slightest because the team is genuinely horrible. I love Devin Booker; we’re Eskimo Brothers. However, I can’t sit here and say that the Suns deserved the #1 pick again after they royally f*cked up the last one they had. While I don’t think they deserved to have the #1 pick, I still think their slide from being tied for 3rd best odds to score the #1 pick to the 5th pick is the last of drops I view as a “silent deaths” that occurred in this lottery. However, I could not imagine an NBA (or a Twitter for that matter) where the Suns, at #1, would take Ja over Zion.
However, while they may not get their point god of the future with Ja Morant, they still may get a solid point guard at the position they are in. Coby White is a large, hybrid guard that excels on the defensive end but also excels from beyond the three point line. Darius Garland has been regarded by some as the next Kyrie Irving, chief among them being Ryen Russillo. All three are welcome for the Suns, but are highly unlikely that the Suns will get who they really want. It would be best for the Suns to land Coby White, since he can compensate for the defensive liabilities Devin Booker has. Unfortunately, there is a team drafting just above the Suns that desperately needs a defensive, secondary ball-handler, so the Suns may not luck into getting Coby White. Darius Garland will be a great ball-handler to pair with D Book, and will finally help space the floor for the Suns. They won’t have to worry about D Book getting a double team every offensive set, and hopefully will make Monty Williams’ (short) tenure as Suns’ head coach smooth sailing.
