It’s time. After watching baseball all day long and even when I’m typing this, the Sweet 16 is finally about to begin. Last weekend I went 5-3, so let’s begin the week on a high streak. Currently sitting at 66-32-1 which is about 67%. Let’s get it.
I’m going to be honest with you, I do not like watching Gonzaga play basketball. I am really hoping they lose this game and they have a very good chance during this game. Florida St destroyed Murray State in their last game while the Zags seemed to have struggled against Baylor. Florida St has been on a tear, especially from 3-point line. This has been a chalk tournament so far and I really hope it continues. But in this game, I’m taking Florida State 87-81. I’m taking Florida State +7.5 and the under 144.
Tennessee survived a huge upset last weekend against Iowa. Unfortunately for them, Purdue is light years ahead of Iowa. I would expect this to be a close game but what it will come down to is Jordan Bone. When he plays to his level, Tennessee is a very hard team to beat just ask Kentucky. Everytime they have played it came down to Bone and Hagans and when Bone is on, Tennessee is as well. It just opens everything up for Williams and Schofield. I think Bone may struggle this game. Purdue is an elite defensive team, especially this tournament. For Purdue, Carson Edwards is going to have to play like he did against Villanova. It will essentially be Edwards vs Bone and I have more faith in Bone. Personally, I want Tennessee to lose but I think they win 71-65. Take Tennessee -1.5 and the over146.
I think this will be the game of the night. Michigan and Texas Tech are both playing at an elite level, especially for them. Michigan has allowed a mere 52 points a game in this tournament which is not a good sign for Texas Tech, who already struggles with that. Jarrett Culver currently leads Texas Tech in every category during the tournament so it will be essential for him to get started early if Texas Tech wants to fight. Brazdeikis is going to have to play great D on Culver and I think he is up to the task. This is my most confident pick of the night. Michigan -1 and over 122. Michigan 71-66.
Oregon is playing their best ball at the right time. Without Bol Bol, this will be hard though. Virginia is out to prove themselves right now, especially after their early exits in years past (UMBCLOL). Payton Pritchard is going to be the difference maker for Oregon. The 6 2 guard needs to have himself a huge game and I think it will come down to his matchup with Kyle Guy. What Virginia usually does not have is 3 point shooting… well this tournament they have been shooting just above 40%. Mixed with their stupid good defense, Virginia is just too good right now. Oregon can upset them, but I honestly just do not see it happening. The team that will beat Virginia is a fast paced, 3-point shooting team (Tennessee and Kentucky). If they win this game and play Tennessee, then we’ll talk but I think they run by Oregon 81-65. Take Virginia – 7.5 and the over 120.
We’ll be back tomorrow for the remaining games, let’s ride!
