Team USA Had a $1M Bounty on Yao Ming

The 2000 Sydney Olympics were a massive success for Team USA Basketball. They went undefeated on their way third straight Olympic gold medal, but there was one stipulation to their opening 119-73 win against China… Team USA had a bounty of $1million on Yao Ming. Not to hurt him or anything that would make Sean Payton proud, but whoever could dunk on Yao would get a hefty payday.

Kevin Garnett said in a recent interview, “We had a bounty on Yao Ming… A million dollar bet on who was going to be the first person to dunk on Yao Ming. None of us did. We all tried to dunk on Yao, but he would block it or we would miss.”

2000 Team USA Roster:
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Ray Allen
Vin Baker
Vince Carter
Kevin Garnett
Tim Hardaway
Allan Houston
Jason Kidd
Antonio McDyess
Alonzo Mourning
Gary Payton
Steve Smith

If I had to pick one guy who could do it, I would say Vince Carter given that he actually jumped OVER a 7 footer and dunked on the entire country of France.
