There have been tons of legal drama in the sports world this week. Everything from tax fraud to match fixing, blood doping to drunk driving. Some could even carry jail time.
Odell Beckham Jr.
A man is suing OBJ, Drake and Kourtney Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend for orchestrating a beatdown in a Hollywood night club. Private security allegedly attacked said man in line for the bathroom after he left their VIP area in the club. The man is reportedly suing for them as well as the night club for damages.
Double whammy here. In the same week, Cristiano Ronaldo has had major developments in two cases. First, Ronaldo was asked to provide a sample of his DNA for an investigation of an alleged rape that happened 10 years ago in Las Vegas. Then, he was ordered to pay $21 million to the Spanish government as his sentence for tax fraud. He was able to skip jail time since it was his first offense.
The former Cowboys running back was arrested a couple days ago for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. This was reported to police after McFadden fell asleep in a Whataburger drive-thru.
French tennis players
Just a couple days after a Spanish match fixing ring run by the Armenian mob was dismantled, another has been discovered in France. Four professional tennis players have been arrested. The mastermind who calls himself the “maestro” (lame), is currently being held in a Belgian prison.
Only baseballer in the mix this week. Yesterday, Miguel Cabrera was ordered to pay his ex-mistress $20,000 a month plus multiple yearly vacations in child support. Brutal.
Ex-Vikings receiver Cayleb Jones has recently cut a deal in his domestic violence case. In order to dismiss two other charges, he pled guilty to Ray Rice-ing his then girlfriend (in an elevator and everything). Despite taking a plea deal, he still faces up to a year in jail.
The Russian flag bearer for the Sochi Olympics has been banned for 2 years from bobsledding for blood doping. This is just the tip of the iceberg as many more Russian athletes are now being questioned.
Cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, P.J. Williams was arrested for drunk driving this morning. While I do not condone driving while intoxicated, I absolutely feel for him and I would also still be drunk 3 days after being robbed of a Super Bowl appearance.
Supposedly approached by Saints fans, New Orleans attorney Frank D’Amico Jr. has filed a civil suit with the NFL. He is suing for the NFL to review the NFC Championship game by way of an NFL rule that states that games can be replayed if they are deemed “extraordinarily unfair”. I don’t like his chances, but I am here for the drama.
